if shaytan is locked…

Q: Why do we read Tawooz when reading Quran in Ramaadaan when shaytan is locked up anyway? (text)
A:

  • Allah states in the Quran: When you reciete the Quran,  read Tawooz (aozoo billahi Minasahytaan nirajeem – i seek protection in Allah from Shaytan the cursed.)
  • Allah did not say refrain from reading Tawooz in Ramadaan. It is a general statement for all months.
  • Although shaytan is locked, our desires are not ‘locked,’ therefore we should continue to seek protection from even the evil of ourselves, friends and family, etc.

‘Ramadan Kareem or Ramadan Mubarak’

Q: Assalaamu’ Alaikum. I was wondering what is more appropriate to say Ramadan Kareem or Ramadan Mubarak? Jazak Allah Khairan.

A: Walaikumsalam,

Once you make salam to your fellow muslim brother/sister, you can say either  Ramadan Kareem or Ramadan Mubarak or even both.

gynecological check up, blood drawn

Q: Imaam, does a gynecological check up invalidate a fast? There is a liquid substance they place inside a woman. Can i have blood drawn? Thanks for all you do for our community. This site has helped my family a lot. (text)

Answers:

  • If anything is inserted into the vagina, then you would have to do a makeup for the fast.
  • Blood can be drawn so long as it does not cause you to faint or become excessively weak.

preventitive measures are better

Q: I talk to my gf and a whitish presemen fluid comes out. We are engaged. we going to make nikah in august. Does my fast break.

A: Limit communication between yourselves. You have an entire life to communicate with her. Practice a little more patience and Allah (SWT) would inshaAllah bless you both.

Your fast did not break by the mere release of precoital fluid.

diaper change

Q: Asalamualikum Imam, Many a times after performing wuddo, while reciting koran,my toddler requires a diaper change. My question is ,do i need to perform wuddo again or is hand washing enough,in order to recite koran again? thankyou.

A: Walaikumsalam,

There is no connection between touching something impure as described by you and the breaking of whudhu. Merely wash your hands after the diaper change. You would not need to make a fresh Whudhu.

A diaper change does not invalidate whudhu. Therefore you would be able to read Quran so long as all impurities are removed from your physical self.

Q: AOA! my question is, I want to know if a girl doesn’t know who actually her father is… I mean if she’s confused between 2 men as her mother wasn’t a very good character person.. her would be husband knows the situation and they want to make their nikka 100% valid so is it ok to get the nikka done twice, with both the men’s name at the place of her father? kindly reply asap!
jazaak Allah khair!

A: Walaikumsalam,

She would be the child of the man that was married to her mother at the time of her birth.

If her mother was not married to either men, the child would be illegitimate. For an illegitimate child, it would be best to have a group of religious scholars be part of her guardianship. Also, she could have her grandparents  from the mothers side present, if they are alive.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.

p.s. Your query lacks detail/clarity.

‘humty dumpty sat on the wall’

Q:I want to know if it is permissible for a Muslim child to learn to play a musical instrument such as the organ (electric piano) through classes at home or at a special centre. There is much talk of how music stimulates creativity brain growth and so on…with this in mind would it be haram to permit him to learn? We don’t generally listen to music as a family but sometimes we watch (clean) movies or cartoons that have music in them. Sometimes our son comes home from school and requests a certain song that he heard on the bus or his classmates singing to be played and we oblige by playing the song a few times on the computer. Is this permissible? Also what about allowing small children to listen to nursery rhymes and Islamic songs which have clean lyrics but also music in them – can they do this?

A:

  • The foundation of wrong (music, piano, etc) with the intent of creating an enhancement to your child’s ‘creativity’ would not be permissible. Find other ways to stimulate your child’s brain, growth, etc.
  • Your child must be taught good religious and good cultural values. Just because he makes a request to hear a particular song does not mean that you should allow him to listen to it. Present better alternatives. Nasheeds, beautiful Quran recitation, etc. would be better alternatives.
  • Nursery rhymes appear to be very innocent. They are known to function in socializing children to a given culture and it’s given set of ideals. As Muslims, we are obligated to listen to that which develops us into better people.
  • We should be cautious. Some things appear very innocent, the outcome if not well monitored can be devastating.
