Ramadan 19, 1435/2014 Tafseer, by Imam Muhammed Shoayb Mehtar, Khadeeja Islamic Center, SLC, Utah
Nightly Notes (19)*:
Tonight we read Surah Hujurat wherein Allah gives us guidance. Allah says to you and I: Do not proceed ahead of Allah and Rasulullah (SAW). How do we do this? Every now and then some fool will say ‘if Rasulullah (SAW) was here today, he would do this (impermissible thing)’. Do they think that Islam can’t come into modern times? Do they know better than Allah and Rasulullah (SAW)???
So do not go ahead in matters that have been defined by Allah and Rasulullah (SAW).
If a Fasik (open sinner) brings you news, verify it first. Ex: with moon-sighting to mark the start and end of each of the lunar months in our calendar. People will say how can we throw away a testimony of a believer? But don’t the courts do the same when someone perjures or lies on the stand? The same thing applies with Allah! Beat up wives, cheat, lie, smoking ‘grass’ (marijuana), gambling… don’t ‘believers’ do all these things? When our own sons/daughters are on the line, THEN we care about what the Fasiks have to say.
Allah says the believers are brothers and sisters to one another. If this is the case, then imagine how in our own families we must be. Reconcile the petty differences between us and our family members. Fear Allah, create or mend family bonds, and Allah will have Rahma (mercy) upon us. Having antagonism in our families = no barakah (blessing), and the breaking of Rahma from Allah (we cut ourselves away from Allah).
Allah says, those that have Imaan, do not mock one another. Stay away from suspicion of one another for it creates more problems for you and I. Ex: trying to see if someone is praying correctly or not is going to mess up our own prayers! Understand who you are.
A person can sin for 99 years and make 1 day of repentance and they will enter Jannah.
- (So worry about yourself, not others!)
In conclusion, Allah is teaching us how to build up our Imaan. The formula is very, very simple; apply the following in all that we say and do and we will be amongst those who are successful in both worlds:
Have Taqwa (fear of Allah) = getting the mercy of Allah
May Allah (SWT) help us and guide us at all times.
