what do i do first

Q. I (regrettably) missed my Isha prayer.

For makeup, do I pray just the Fard and Witr?
A. The general sequence is as follows for the person who missed the Isha prayer: you would pray your Isha first, then you would preferably perform your sunnah salaah.

Thereafter, you would join the taraweeh prayer. Later, the witr would be performed. You could very well read your witr on your own should you continue to read your missed taraweeh rakats as a priority.

some people just yell

Q.

?????? ????? ????? ???? ???????
What are the etiquettes involved in taking out mistakes during Taraweeh?

I ask for the benefit of those who attended Taraweeh tonight and are a bit confused of what happened.
A. ?????? ?????? ????? ???? ???????

As part of the etiquette of correcting people, one must stand near the Imaam’s area, or in a place that allows for clarity when a correction is being made.  The idea is to eliminate confusion, not create more of it.

One needs to take out the error when the Imaam needs assistance. If the imaam does not need assistance, then one can remind him later, so the Imaam can correct the error himself later.  (This has been the tradition in our Islamic Society.)
If the mistake changes the meaning greatly, then the person in the back can take out immediately, so as to not blaspheme the Quran.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.

p.s. As for what happened. Some brother just wanted to shout, as happens in major masasjids. The honorable sheik was INCORRECT in the error he attempted to take out. The both Uluma that are responsible for taking out mistakes also noted this fact that the ‘shouter’ was wrong. Our recordings prove likewise. Thus our recommendation to the guests Imaams: they should not take heed incorrect persons yelling’s. That is all that happened… (now does this added information change anything in your life?!)

niyat and salaah

?????? ????? ????? ???? ???????

Can one pray Tahiyatul masjid (salaam to the masjid nafl prayer) and an outstanding prayer in the same two rak’ahs (ie the same reward but one prayer?)

Jazakullah Khair in advance.

Time: Monday August 10, 2009 at 1:51 pm

A.

?????? ?????? ????? ???? ???????

One cannot always bind their intention with nafl and fard.

When it cannot be done: For example, Salat ul Hajaat (salaah to fulfill ones needs) cannot be performed with a fard salaah as part of one combined niyat (intention).

When it can be done: However, Tahiyatul Masjid can be coupled with a fard salaah niyat.

(Same rule would apply for Tahiyatul wudhu. Wherin two niyats can exist in the given whudhu.)

motivation for all times sought

Question:
assallamu alaykum,
most of Everybody gets excited for Ramadan to start and many do tasbih extra to get close to Allah but after two or three days some lose motivation because they made a mistake in their fasting thinking that Allah will not accept their fast while others they lose the interest. in such situation how can a person gain that motivation and come back to reading quran/praying at night etc.

May Allah grant you paradise imaam!

Time: Tuesday August 25, 2009 at 6:06 pm

Answer: We had requested Br. Yassir Butt to answer this question. May Allah (SWT) reward him and his family.

Dear Seeker

Just like when we have germs enter our body the side effect is fever.  So one can conclude that fever is a natural side effect of a physiological infection.  Once understood, there is a certain physiology to what you are describing.  the whole ummah is suffering from Spiritual sickness manifesting itself in the form of lack of motivation to do good.

Imam Ghazali in Ihya Uloom ud din has a prescription though:
1-To not eat a lot in Iftar since it makes the body lazy.
2-To avoid extra physical activity during Ramadan to save energy for night worship.
3-To practice Qailoola (afternoon nap between Duhur and Asr prayers Sunnah) he contends that people who have left it eventually succumb to exhaustion and cannot keep the motivation up.
4-To avoid sins during the day to be prosperous at night. Continue Reading →

‘relationship of human beings and environment’

Aasalamualaykum
What is the relationship of human beings and environment according to Islam?

Time: Sunday July 26, 2009 at 3:10 pm

A.

?????? ?????? ????? ???? ???????

Allah(Subhanahu Wata’Ala) has created everything for a purpose. Nothing has ever been created in vain. As humans, we must live in harmony with every aspect of our universe. We must resist the temptation of exploiting any aspect of it. We must use it in accordance to the laws of the land and religion. Use only the amount we need. Just as you would want courtesy shown upon you, show it to all other entities as well. This is the general Islamic opinion of what our relationship should be with our environment.

dont confuse the confused (any more)

Q. I just wanted to ask what the correct prayer times were. The chart given out at the masjid differs from those online…For Example, on the chart passed out by the masjid it says that Fajr is at 5:10 but on islamicfinder.com  it says it’s at about 5:30. Which is the correct time? (when does our fast begin?) (from: Muslim)

Time: Tuesday August 25, 2009 at 4:47 pm

A. Our data is also from islamicfinder. The settings you have are different, thus different timings have resulted. In the case you have outlined, it is better to follow the earlier time for the starting of your fast. Not doing so could invalidate your fast.

As for the breaking of fast, use the exact sunset time. For safety, you can add a minute or two. Or you can use our shared chart as well.

May Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) bless you and accept your fast and all the good you do, Ameen.

Allah certainly Knows Best

p.s. A brother has sent us a chart specifically for Salt Lake City. We shall make that public in the appropriate time.

when do i shower

Asalmaulaikom Imaam Muhammad Shoayb,
I hope you are in best health and Imaan.
I had a question about fasting and menstruation.
If one is done with their period and has the intention of fasting the next day but waits to take their ghusal during Suhur. But they were not able to wake up and instead took their Ghusul in the morning. Does their fast count? if not can they break the fast if they already fasted for half day?
Jazakallahu Khairan

Answers:

?????? ?????? ????? ???? ???????

The fast counts. They would not be a need to break it (as a result of your ignorance.)

(For a person to intentionally take their bath after suhur whilst being in a state of janabat is NOT makrooh. You can eat and take your bath. Do it prior to the end of your fajr time.)

May Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) bless your fast, Ameen.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.

(p.s. may Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) bless you for the 99% correct spelling of my name)

do i make a noise or be quite?

Q.When the Imam is reciting a surah that you are not familiar with during prayer, do you recite a surah of your own or simply listen to the Imam? Do the same rules apply to Taraweh prayer? (from:Muslim)

Time: Sunday August 23, 2009 at 2:23 pm

A. As for Hanafees, they must listen to the Imaam and be silent when the Imaam is reciting (as stated in Bukhari). The Imaams recital and actions count for everyone behind him.

As for our Shafees audience: Imaam Shafi’i states that one can read surah Fatiha in Dhuhr and Asr salaah while behind the Imaam. To read anything in salaah in those portions that the Imaam is reading loud is makruh tahrimi. When the Imaam is soft (e.g. last two rakats of isha, or last rakat of magrib), then only Shafees can read their own surah faitha. Thus, true shafees are making amal (making action) upon both Hadith: the one that states read a surah as well as being silent in the proper time.  (Supposedly Salafees differ on this in that they insist of reading surah Fatiha on their own in all rakats. It would be best to ignore such persons.)

brain power

?????? ????? ????? ???? ???????

A fellow student and I were discussing things that would increase memory (for Hifz and college classes) and one of the things mentioned that an Imam recommended to him was to eat 21 raisins, glass of milk at night, and honey.
Are there other dietary instructions of how to increase one’s memory?
Jazakullah Khair.

Time: Friday July 17, 2009 at 6:07 am

A.

?????? ?????? ????? ???? ???????

Although our advice would not be diet-bound, it functions as a good spiritual regiment.

Abstain from sin. Avoid negative thoughts. Do not eat haram. Avoid lies and gossip. Keep good company. Protect your eyes from seeing the forbidden. Respect the Imaan Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) has bestowed upon you by doing noble actions.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.

(Student 732)

p.s. it need not be exactly 21 raisins. But raisins are beneficial for body and mind, so are almonds, milk, etc.

‘What should we do more when we are fasting’

Assalamu Alaykum,

What should we do more when we are fasting and what should we abstain from?

Wasalam

Time: Wednesday August 19, 2009 at 4:30 pm

Answer:

?????? ?????? ????? ???? ???????

Recommendations:

It is a month in which the Quran was revealed (Ayah). Recite more Quran in appreciation of it. This month is a gift, so treat it as such. Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) loves those who appreciate His bounties (ayah). As you read the Quran, ask Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) to guide you and make your life like that of the Quran.Beg allah (SWT to fill your heart with His Noor.

When in your car, listen to more Quran as well. Talk less in this month. NEVER gossip. Avoid arguments at all costs. To a Muslim picking a fight with you, say the following: ‘I am fasting.’ Be kind to EVERYONE you see (preferred within the same gender of course. This does not mean that you must beat up men either!)

Whilst going from one point to another, read lots of tasbeeh.

Have your sadaqatul fitr sent off early to the needy. It is their right. You do good unto others, Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) would have good done upon you.

At night, pray your taraweeh. Take pride in reading your tahajud salaah. Make duaa for every creation of Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) before the time of fast begins and as well as when it ends.

Signs of an accepted Ramadaan

We assure you that you would be the saddest person when Ramadan leaves. (Sad in a nice way of course.) You would remain in anticipation for the next Ramadan. This waiting period would be such that it would also help you refrain from other sins. In the process, you would become a better person not just in Ramadan, but for the entire year.

May Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) bless you and all our families, Ameen.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.
