Q. I just wanted to ask what the correct prayer times were. The chart given out at the masjid differs from those online…For Example, on the chart passed out by the masjid it says that Fajr is at 5:10 but on islamicfinder.com  it says it’s at about 5:30. Which is the correct time? (when does our fast begin?) (from: Muslim)

Time: Tuesday August 25, 2009 at 4:47 pm

A. Our data is also from islamicfinder. The settings you have are different, thus different timings have resulted. In the case you have outlined, it is better to follow the earlier time for the starting of your fast. Not doing so could invalidate your fast.

As for the breaking of fast, use the exact sunset time. For safety, you can add a minute or two. Or you can use our shared chart as well.

May Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) bless you and accept your fast and all the good you do, Ameen.

Allah certainly Knows Best

p.s. A brother has sent us a chart specifically for Salt Lake City. We shall make that public in the appropriate time.
