Tafseer (Night 16)

Ramadan 16, 1435/2014 Tafseer , by Imam Muhammed Shoayb Mehtar, Khadeeja Islamic Center, SLC, Utah

Nightly Notes (16)*:

Tonight we discussed about how sustenance is only from Allah so why are we turning our back to Allah and trying to see it from creation instead of the Creator? Allah’s promise is a reality, it is truthful, it is guaranteed. The same cannot be said people’s promises. Don’t let this world distract you, it is filled with makeup. It is deceptive and it will come to an end. That new car you bought? Guess what, it’s going to get old and rusty. That new house? Continue Reading →

Tafseer (Night 15)

Ramadan 15, 1435/2014 Tafseer , by Imam Muhammed Shoayb Mehtar, Khadeeja Islamic Center, SLC, Utah

Nightly Notes (15)*:

Tonight we read Surah Luqman where Luqman (AS) is passing on advice to his child and the Qur’an is teaching us how to have adab (respect) for our parents. Ayah 14 close meaning says ‘We have given humanity instructions concerning their parents’. Our mother carried us in her womb for so long. She bore us, she fed us until we were 2 years, not just for a day, a week, a month which is common in the animal kingdom to have a minimal feeding time. No, Allah made it such that  Continue Reading →

Tafseer (Night 14)

Ramadan 14, 1435/2014 Tafseer , by Imam Muhammed Shoayb Mehtar, Khadeeja Islamic Center, SLC, Utah

Nightly Notes (14)*:

Today we read about Musa (AS) when reaching maturity he was given knowledge and wisdom by Allah. He felt that he was the most knowledgeable person on earth so Allah sent Khidr (AS) to him to show him that Allah gives knowledge to whom He pleases. In another part of the Qur’an Musa (AS) wants to learn from Khidr (AS) but could not understand the lessons that Khidr (AS) had him go through and why he did certain things, etc. There are two types of knowledge, Continue Reading →

Tafseer (Night 13)

Ramadan 13, 1435/2014 Tafseer, by Imam Muhammed Shoayb Mehtar, Khadeeja Islamic Center, SLC, Utah

Nightly Notes (13):

Tonight we discussed Surah Shura wherein Musa (AS) feared rejection from the people (imagine, a prophet of all people fearing rejection! This shows that everyone fears rejection from people) so he asked Allah (SWT) to have his brother Haroon be made a prophet, the greatest gift a brother could give to another is Nubuwwa (prophethood).

There is an ayah that mentions Musa (AS) grabbing his brother Haroon (AS)’s beard. This goes to show that keeping a beard Continue Reading →

Tafseer (Night 12) + One Ayah at a Time (2:4)

Ramadan 12, 1435/2014 Tafseer, by Imam Muhammed Shoayb Mehtar, Khadeeja Islamic Center, SLC, Utah

Nightly Notes (12):

There is an ayah in 17th Juz where Allah says be like a ship in this world, don’t let this world distract you from the Akhirah, such as wealth, children, property, etc. They all have their importance but their importance put together is not worth sacrificing our Hereafter.

The first ayah in the 18th Juz is where Allah gives us the definition of a believer. Be like the Sahabah who feared Allah in the way Allah is to be feared. They attained perfection of Salah to stay focused on Jannah and would even give up their orchards if they found it a distraction in their prayers. The more perfect a person’s prayer and the more they absorb themselves in it, the more on the straight path they will be towards Allah.

Obey Allah, obey Rasulullah (SAW), and fear Allah. Example: in business transactions don’t do something wrong and then later ask for forgiveness in a cultural manner. A true believer puts all nonsense like this aside, vain talk, etc.
