Comment/Question:
Salamu Alaykum Imam,
It really saddens me to see a lot of Muslims all excited to help out Haitis (I mean mashallah its good to see them assisting humanity), but what saddens me is that they turn the other cheek to Muslim countries. Almost every Muslim country or Muslim populated country is suffering Afghanistan, Somalia, Pakistan, Palestine, Burma..etc
Is it not our religious obligation to help Muslims first then non-believers?
If we don’t help our own Muslim brothers and sister then who will? Continue Reading →

Assalamu Alaykum,
I have a request, if your website could post this concern that would be great. There is a restaurant in Salt Lake called Cafe Rio that is popular among many Muslims. Their tortilla, used in most of the dishes (especially the salad) contains lard (pig fat). I just found out and I thought this would be the best way to get the message out.
JazakAllah Khair!

Q:
As Salaamu Alaikum!
I once read that smoking is haraam, but I don’t remember the source. Recently, a Muslim brother told me that it’s “just makruh”. What’s the real verdict about smoking, anyway?
Jazak Allah

Q: Salaam walikum,
When non-sharia (compliant) is being said, is that equivilent to haram, or is it in the middle between halal and haram? Meaning that it is not halal nor haram.
Walikum Salaam.

Depending on the context, the meaning of the phrase, ‘nonsharia compliant’ could mean any or more of the following: haram, best to be abstained from, makruh with its multiple gradations, etc. This phrase implies, the action in question should be avoided and that this given action remains frowned upon and abstaining from it would enrich your Imaan.
Being an English term makes it greatly ambiguous.

Q: Assalaamu’Alaikum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakatuhu!
i have had relations(Hugging and kissing) with my friend. one day i asked him for marriage, he refused. After that i stopped meeting and talking to him and he also did not try to contact me. i offered salat-tobah (forgiveness) after that, because i had feelings of remorse and guilt. but i still love that man and want him as my life partner. Please guide me to right path.

Q:
Salam Imam,
I was wondering if the sunnah beard is obligated on a man. Though being sunnah many say it is fardh. People tell me I can’t shave it nor trim it is that correct?
