Salamu Alaykum Imam,

It really saddens me to see a lot of Muslims all excited to help out Haitis (I mean mashallah its good to see them assisting humanity), but what saddens me is that they turn the other cheek to Muslim countries. Almost every Muslim country or Muslim populated country is suffering Afghanistan, Somalia, Pakistan, Palestine, Burma..etc
Is it not our religious obligation to help Muslims first then non-believers?
If we don’t help our own Muslim brothers and sister then who will?

Your pain is shared by many. Allah (SWT) states: Whatever occurs is due to the sins we have committed. (Understood meaning of the ayah.) We have none to blame except ourselves. We too share your pain of all human suffering. No innocent person ever deserves to suffer at the hands of another human. Be it ‘Afghanistan, Somalia, Pakistan, Palestine, Burma…etc or for that matter, United States, Chile, Europe, Russia, Syria, Mali, etc. All human life must be treated with its appropriate value. This is the position of all peace-loving Christians, Jews, Mormons and Muslims, etc.
