Q: Assalamu alaikum. I had one of my ramadan fasts invalid due to some reason. Before making up for that fast, I began fasting during month of shawwal. Later, I came to know that the fasts for shawwal can be kept only after making up for all ramadan fasts.

Kindly clarify if I get any reward for those fasts or did they go in vain?

Your fast were not in vain.  In this specific scenario, your reward would be as you intended.

We agree, one should keep the Ramadaan make-up before any nafl. However, doing so as you had done would not invalidate what you have done.
