‘I am told to consume urine of an animal’

Q: I am suffering from a disease which has sores on my body. I am told to consume urine of an animal or must inject it into my sore area or rub it with a cloth on my body. I have not purchased the medicine yet. Would this be allowed? would my salah be accepted? (April 19, 2010)

A: If a permissible substitute to this medication exists, then you should use this substitute.

If a substitute does not exist and it was indeed rubbed upon the body, it would have to be removed for salah purposes. The clothing would possibly also need to be cleansed, had the clothers been soiled as a result of impurities.

Allah Certainly Knows best.

p.s. we are unaware of the type of animal and its urine. Thus, our answer is general for all animals and on the side of precaution. May Allah cure you and all people suffering from all types of illnesses, Ameen.
