Q: I live in a small city. there are only 2 doctors and a pharmacy that opens 3 times a week. so choices are limited. i have prescribed capsules that have in them bovine type gelatin. Would this be halal?
A:

  • One should not consume that which the religion prohibits.
  • You should seek an alternative to the current medication. Should this be impossible,  the medicinal part should be removed from the current bovine capsule capsule and be consumed while disposing of the capsule.
  • Should you not be able to separate the capsule from its medication, in such a case, as a no choice situation, you may consume what you have while always seeking a better alternative.

May Allah (SWT) make your matters easy for you, ameen.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.
