Q: Assalamu alikum wa rahmatullah,
I hope you had a greatly blessed Eid ya sheikh.
I have to make up 5 days for Ramadan, and I want to fast the 6 days of Shawal. Am I suppose to make up the 5 Qadh’a days first and then fast the 6 days of Shawal? or can I combine both in 6 days (the Qadh’a and the 6 days of Shawal)?..would you provide me with the Shafi’e point view.
Jazaka Allahu Khairan.

Wishing you and your family likewise. Kind words are always appreciated by all. Ameen.
Two opinions exist within the shafee school.
One is that there can be a joint intention, in that you can keep the Qazdha as well as the fast of shawal simultaneously. The more accepted view as presented by Imaam Nawawi is that they be separated. This is what most shawafees have opted towards.
Thus, we recommend the following: Keep the Qadha fast first, thereafter keep the fast of Shawal.
Allah Certainly Knows Best.
For ahnaf we offer the following: if you are healthy, keep the shawal fast first, if you are not in the best of health and can fast, then fast your Qadha first, then keep the fast of shawal.
*yes, we did delay, but i am sure you would be kind to use this answer for next year inshaAllah. May Allah bless you for your patience.
