Q: i do not qualify to make the qurban. So imaam do i give sadaqah to whatever i cn to make up. I feel bad. all my life my family did oversees. and i am not doing. i feel sad. my financial situation is really bad. i am an international student. ahsanal jaza

A: Allah (SWT) places us all in unique situations. If you cannot afford to sacrifice an animal, it is perfectly fine. There is no penalty for not doing it when you cannot afford to do so. Make sabr (have patience) and it is our dua (prayers) that Allah (SWT) makes matters easy for you.

Regarding the giving of sadaqah, if you have a little bit of extra resources and you feel that you can help a person that is less fortunate than yourself, by all means you should do so. However, this ‘giving’ should not be viewed as a penalty.
