Q: my real age is 22. when we came to usa my age was changed by 4 years. so my real age is 26. i hate lying about my age. must i change my documents to be more honest?
A: One should not place themselves in harms way. If its possible to correct the data without harm to you or your family, you should do so. If you were a minor, then in such a case, those that have falsified such data are to be held responsible in the Court of our Creator.
For purposes of nikah (marriage) or those situations that require your exact age and sharing such ‘honest’ data would not impose any harm upon you, you should always be honest about such (age) data shared. Be wise.
We do not encourage lies. This answer only applies to the above situation due to it possibly being beyond the individuals control at the time of the deception.
Allah Certainly Knows Best.
