Q: Can one eat eel? (text)

A: Hanafee no. Shafee yes.

Our opinion: if you are tempted with eating haram meat (beef, chicken, etc,) then in such an instance, it would be better for you to eat the eel than something which is clearly prohibited (as part of our definition, haram meat to us is defined as meat not slaughters in the name of the Creator.) For a person wanting maximum piety, abstain from haram meats and those foods that are doubtful or foods in which scholars have differing opinions.
