‘right hand to do dhikr’

Q:
Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah,

I wanted to know if it is sunnah to use the right hand to do dhikr (i.e., on the fingers or holding a misbaha). Is it makruh to use the left hand?

JazakAllah khair.

Yes it is sunnah to use the right hand to make zikr whilst counting on the finger.

Sayidinah Abdullah bin Amr bin ‘Aas states that  i saw Rasulullah (Sallallaahu alayhi wa Sallam) counting the glory of Allah on the fingers of his right hand. (Abu Dawwood)

Should a person not be able to perform their azkar due to them performing a large number, then one can use the misba so as to make matters easy coupled with fingers should they choose, etc. Right hand would be preferred, however, left hand too can be used.

It is not makruh to use the left hand, but better to use right hand. Both hands would inshaAllah intercede for the person who uses them to remember Allah (SWT).

Allah Certainly Knows Best.
