Q: i was thought that when a person passes gas they must wash that area before making a fresh whudhu. I read on your website that this may be the incorrect thing to do. Canyou correct me why? Its not that i dont appreciate your answer i jsut wanaa make sense of it. Thanks (text via app)

A: Passing of gas is not the same as the passing of a substance from either of the private parts/areas.

Passing of urine or stool would make washing the areas from which these impurities come out off necessary. Proper cleansing of such areas is called istinga.  By contrast, gas removal only necessitates whudu, not a washing of that given area — for gas in itself does not leave a residue coupled with impurities.

Some people due to illness release impurities coupled with the release of gas, in such a situation the person would wash of such impurities prior to making whudhu (ablution.).

Allah Certainly Knows Best.
