Q: Asalamualikum,

Inshallah we are expecting twins and we like the names Rehman and Raheem. We want to know if these names we chose are ok for first names. We have done some research on online and talked with our friends and they think Abdul should be first when pronouncing these names. We are concerned that if we name the Abdul Rehman for example; in America they won’t say Rehman only Abdul. We are asking younwhat your views on this, what is right? I look forward to your response it is greatly appreciated.

Thank you kindly,

(name withheld)

A: Walaikumsalam,

One would keep the name Abdul before the names of Rahman and Raheem.  Otherwise the child would be called a quality that is reserved only for Allah.

May Allah bless your family with these children, Ameen.
Allah Certainly Knows Best.
