‘I did the regrettable’

Q: as a married woman I did the regrettable. I dated a man at work and got pregnant 7 years ago. I had the child because I was married at the time to a very wealthy and stable man. Had I divorced my life would have been in danger.  My husband thought it was his child. Now my husband died a week ago and the real dad wants to be with this child. He did not pay a penny towards this child nor did he offer.  Our affair has long ended.  I do not want him part of my life of this childs life. He says he has Islamic rights. Will I be sinful? I have made tawba and really am sorry.  Pelase do nto get angry at me. I made my mistake and regret my everyday life for what I doen to my husband that died. Salam (Email)

A: Hadith: A child (conceived from this wretched action of zina) will belong to the (one she is in) nikah (with.) (hadith and islamic principal/jurisprudence)

Therefore, although the man you had an affair with seeks custody of this child, the man you were married to would be viewed as the true father. The child would attain the name of the man you were married to at the time of conceiving this child. This dead beat dad would have no right upon this child.

The mother and father should make continual tawba for what they have done.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.
