Q: Assalamu Walaykum. Is practicing law in the U.S. permissible in Islam? Is it ok to work in criminal prosecution?  July 22, 2012 6:58 pm

A: Practicing law anywhere in the world in itself is not forbidden; similarly, being a doctor, engineer, salesperson, carpenter is not prohibited either. Every profession has people that do things the right way and people that do things the wrong way. If you practiced law while lacking the necessary ethics that is demanded by religion and environment, then such a profession would result in gaining you sin as well as function as an impediment to the advances of society. If you practiced your profession as the law and religion requests, then such a profession could bring blessedness for you, your clients and society.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.
