Q: Salam, I have a couple questions concerning Zakat. The following are the questions:
1. Can we give Zakat to a “sayid” if the Sayid is in need i.e poor? Also can we give fitrana to a sayid?
2. Can we give zakkat and fitranah to a sibling ie. sister?
3. Can we give Zakkat to a person who owns land & property but no means of physical cash?
4. and if Given zakkat; can a person buy appliances? i.e fridge, washing machine etc.
5. Can anybody take/eat sadqat(meat)?
Walaikumsalam
Answers:
1) No
2) Yes, provided they fulfill the requirements of eligibility as it relates to zakat. Eg, they must be mature, own below nisab, etc
3) Yes, so long as the land is not for investment purposes. If it is a land that they reside upon as a mere personal home and do not have the amount of nisab, such a person can receive zakat.
4) The recipient can purchase appliances and other things of need. As a precautionary measure, one must not give so much as to make the receiver of zakat get more than the amount of nisab.
5) Best to give it and share it between people of the faith.
Allah Certainly Knows Best.
