Q. Many(except the one Allah guide them) at colleges neglect their duty toward their family, and put most of their focus on school than family. Since many including me feel shame of this, but how could a person deal with family and school? What should we put our focus more on school or our family? What is our responsiblity toward our parents?

May Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) bless Br Yassir for answering the following question for us.

Q. Many(except the one Allah guide them) at colleges neglect their duty toward their family, and put most of their focus on school than family. Since many including me feel shame of this, but how could a person deal with family and school? What should we put our focus more on school or our family? What is our responsibility toward our parents?

Answer: since your question has a general tone without a specific situation outlined.  Hence we will respond accordingly:

1) Your Duty towards your parents is to Love them, Cherish them, Revere them, Respect them, Pray for them and obey them in everything except what Allah has prohibited or causes direct harm to yourself.

2) Try to organize your life around the Five prayers.  So, for instance from fajr till dohur you go to college.  After duhur till Asr you finish college/school and do your assignments etc.  Between Asr and Maghrib you call or visit your parents and if you live with them have a break with them.  Between Maghrib and Isha hang out with your friends.  After Isah have time for your self for reflection upon your day and worship etc.

You know your situation better than any one else.  It is a balancing act that’s all. It should not be too burdensome for you to figure out the Masjid is open for one on one counseling regarding specifics of your situation insha Allah

3) Remember Allah says

????????? ??????? ?? ?????????????

Fear Allah to best of your ability

Or Do your duties to Allah to best of your Ability

Surah At-Taghabun verse 16 (chapter 64 verse 16)
