Q. when is kajol (eye liner)suppose to be used and when not to be used? Is kajol sunnah?

The use of Kajol (surmah, kohl) is sunnah. One should adorn themselves with it. It is part of sunnah for men and woman to use it. Woman should use it with the intent of beautifying themselves for their families. It should not be used as an attractant towards strangers. That would be forbidden.

 

Eye liner is not the same as Kohl (kajol). Eyeliner is part of western cosmetic industry and used generally by woman. Men in Islam cannot resemble woman and wear (revlon, etc) eyeliner. Men can wear kajol. Eyeliner and Kohl are not the same thing!

Ismid is a name of khol that is mentioned in the above hadtih. To obtain it is possible.

A2. It is best not to use Kohl (arabic word) when one is morning the loss of a husband.
