Sleeping while dreaming

Q: Dear Sheikh, I am writing to you to ask you about the interpretation of a dream i had. This is very urgent, I called you but you told me to write to you instead. You also promised that that you would respond in 5 to 7 days maximum.

This dream happened after i woke up at around 6:30 am and went to the hospital for back pain. I came back tired and went back to sleep at around 8 am. Please note that i missed the fajr prayer that morning. Continue Reading →

potential suitor (angers me)

Q:

Hello!

I have a question – I am looking to get married and there is a potential suitor. However, after communicating with him (via phone, etc) for some time I feel we have very little in common. And his family wants a quick response. He comes from a good family, good religious values, etc. but certain aspects about his personality bring out the worst in me. I become impatient, bossy and a bit of a bully (and by nature I am not like that) because I start feeling frustrated and I do not want to be unreasonable with someone. I have been told by elders that these aspects of his personality will not change (they are not BAD aspects, but just completely incompatible with what I feel I need to be a happy and good wife to someone) and if I go ahead with this, I need to accept these. I feel I have my answer already but I suppose what I am wondering is if there is an Islamic perspective on this? My take is that there are so many nice people, but not all nice people can make happy couples (and remain nice with each other). Continue Reading →

ipod, gift giving, bonus checks – current realities

Q:

As Salaamu Alaikum,

1.) It seems that the youth today are into video games, ipods/iphones, and other things of that nature.  What are some of the best gifts to give, other than these things?  This is mainly for the purpose of keeping a strong Islamic presence in the home, but also something the youth would enjoy.

2.) What are some of the best gifts that we can give adults?  (e.g. parent, spouse, friend, etc.)  What would be considered appropriate and would be considered something we should stay away from, that we normally might not think about?

3.) My boss gives an annual bonus around the time of Christmas.  He does not call it a Christmas gift, but everyone knows that it is a Christmas gift.  Should I not accept the bonus money?

Thank you for you time to answer this question. JazakAllahu khair

According to Al-Asmae: Some people from the from Quraish traveling back to their land were severely affected by strong wind to a point where they were not able to withstand it.  Finally, the wind subsided so they demonstrated their gratitude by freeing a slave they owned.  One person did not have a slave so he said” O Allah I do not own a slave yet I like to show gratitude therefore I am divorcing my wife for your sake three times!”

cupping – ‘hijama’

Q:

Asalam U alaikum, Imaam
An Imaam was asked about some ways to help an individual with his memory. Ex. Memorizing the Qur’an, or just textbooks. The Imaam replied by saying that HIJAMA is a technique that helps increase the potential of the brain. He didnt explain very well what that word (HIJAMA) means. something to do with placing a cup on your back. If you could please explain what this technique is, I would greatly appreciate it.
