restroom, men, clothes, bladder burst in the works

Q:

Assalamualaikum,

At times I have to use the restroom at work and am aware as Muslims it is not permissible to stand while urinating without a valid excuse. Also as we are aware that the places of relieving oneself in our American society are filthy especially the mens’ restrooms due to men urinating all over, not only the seat but as well as the floor etc etc.  The question is in this situation what do we as Muslims do when we have to relieve ourselves in such facilities? I do not like to stand and relieve myself but in most cases if I try to sit and relieve myself then my clothes may come in contact with the urine on the floor thus making my salah invalid. Take note I do not wear my trousers below my ankles, I have exhausted trying to locate a private restroom, such as one the administration at my workplace uses that may be kept clean and would suffice for me to relieve myself and In most cases I do not use the restroom unless my bladder is absolutely going to burst.  Then I usually am forced to
stand and relieve myself and sometimes I don’t know if my clothes have had urine slash on to my clothes because if one stands you see the urine splash because the pressure of relieving oneself but I feel ashamed to do this because it is against the etiquette’s of relieving oneself in Islam.  What to do? Would I still be held accountable for this in the sight of Allah SWT?  Should I repeat my salah upon returning home?  I do know that many Muslim males are undergoing the same challenge.  Please advise

Thanks,
Allah Hafiz

Best to sometimes be quiet

Stories of the Stupid and the Oblivious by Ibn Al-Jawzee

(Page 157, Dar-Al Fikr 1990)

A man used to sit in Qadi Abu Yusuf’s Halaqa (the great student of Imam Abu-Hanifa).  This individual used to maintain silence at all times, till Abu Yusuf started to notice him and thought highly of him for his manners and respect.  So, one day Abu Yusuf asked him “Brother why don’t you speak to us and participate in our discussion of Fiqh”.  The individual replied “When does a Fasting person eat?”.  Abu Yusuf replied “When the Sun sets at Maghrib”.  The individual replied “What if the Sun does not set till midnight?”.  Abu Yusuf laughed and said “You were correct to keep quite in the Halaqa at all times, and I was wrong when I forced you to speak”.

I got a quick question, sorry haha i am adding more questions to your list, but i am not in hurry to get the response. Based on your educational background (and qualifications), and still being student, I want to know how did you manage school with family and work? Alhamdulelah i have a nice family but the issue is that they are traditional, so girl has to cook and clean up to be considered a girl. I do believe strong in having girl know how to cook and clean up but when having other responsibilities, what should she be doing? I just dont know how to prioritize things wallahi. My question is; How could student do well academically and also other stuff? (personal email) Continue Reading →

‘2012 as being the end’

Q:

Asalmalkium, Imam

I am a person who believes in all forms of higher powers, Allah being one of the positive gods I have been studying.
This might seem like a stupid question, but please have patience with me as I am of the western culture.
Does Allah have his followers believing in 2012 as being the end of a paradigm, Rather, it is the end of the world as we know it and the beginning of a whole new way of being, a whole new culture, and a whole new path for humanity, and not as the end of the world like some would have us believe?
