Q: Assalama Alaikum Imam,
What does Islam say about milad un Nabi? Are we allowed to have special events  just for this month?Hold especial events just for this month,Isn’t celebrating the birth of our beloved Prophet (s)?

Q: is it a sin to eat milad food? is it a sin to attend? if i say Christ is not alive can i say he is with me at the Milad? If an imaam allos for it can we perform salah behind him? any advice to this matter would be appreciated.

• No proof exists in religion as it relates to celebrating the birthday of any prophet (peace be upon them all.)
• These is no evidence as to the exact date of when Prophet Mohamad (SAW) was born from any authentic source. To make up a date is false and would thus register as a lie, and to lie would impose the curse of Allah (SWT) upon the liar. (Yes, we know the month and day as best as possible, this does not indicate date!)
• To go to events in which there is a direct link to ‘milad-un-nabi ‘is not sanctioned by our religion, even if the name or title of program states otherwise. However, if such programs are held every month, for example sirah of Rasulullah (SAW), than to attend this event in any month of the year would not be part of an innovative (bidah)  behavior. In-fact it would be very rewarding, mainly due to the consistency of such an event. Allah (swt) loves people that are consistent (hadith) more so in the love of His Prophet (SAW).
• To attend an event that titles itself as Milad-Un-Nabi is a bidah — innovation.
• To accept that the prophet (saw) is physically present in such gatherings is part of shirk. This is a major sin in Islam.
• To feed people with the niyah th (intention) that the prophet (saw) is present is haram, to accept that he (SAW) is eating that food is shirk (kufar to some), to consume such food is forbidden for people that wish to remain as part of ahle sunnah wal jamat.
• To attack people that do these events without attaining the facts is a sin. One can denounce such events if they are forcing you to attend. If in doubt regarding these events, do not attend. Do not eat such foods if they are linked to what is called ‘milad-un-nabi.’ Pray for their spiritual well-being without a sense of superiority. Give warning to those that ask for it and are keen towards accepting your advice. Do not promote greater fitnah. Work with people to do good, do not work people away from you, work people towards you.
• If an imaam promotes that Rasulullah (SAW) is present in such events, than one should read their salah behind him at the musjid they attend, however, they must later go to a private area or home and repeat the salah again. Such imaams are not kaffirs, they are just misguided. We deal with misguided people with sensitivity and in a cordial mature manner to gradually win them over.
• I do agree, a person from amongst us must be firm in guiding the community away from wrongful actions. They must do so with wisdom (hikmah) — gently and with maturity.
