animal was slaughtered by nonmuslim for a muslim … halaal or not?!

Q1: An animal was slaughtered. A nonmuslim cut it while a muslim read bismilal allahuakbar. Does this fit the requirement of a halal slaughter? (Question posed at musjid after Jummah salah on the day of eid)

A: This type of animal slaughter does not fit the sharia standards of  hallal. As described, the actual slaughter was done by the nonmuslim. This is not allowed.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.

p.s. If Allah has blessed you, do a redo of the Qurban.

Q2: (added on to the above) A nonmuslim started to cut the animal, a Muslim took over, is the animal now Halal? (Question posed at musjid after Jummah salah)

A: If more than 50% was severed by the Muslim, then the slaughter would be hallal.

etiquette’s of the takbeer after salah and hair cutting

Q: what are the etiquette’s of the takbeer after salah and hair cutting?

Answers:

Part1) Takbeer starts at the 9th of Zilhajj at fajr time. (This year (2009) it would mean Thursday morning – after fajr salah!)

Woman can say it at home in a soft voice after every salah. Remind those around you – for the reward is great in doing so.

Part 2) Reading of the takbeer would last up it the 13th of zil-hijjah (end of the Asr Salah)

To say it once is enough after the prayer.

Part 3) Cutting of the hair, nails, etc. would resume once your animal is scarified.

Time: Thursday November 26, 2009 at 11:36 am

A: ?????? ?????? ????? ???? ???????

Yes, you can sacrifice for the Prophet (SAW).

*Absolutely yes. You can do for all those that have passed away. Prophets (peace upon them all), sahaba, major and genuine great Imaams,  grandparents, teachers, etc. If the person is living, then only you would need their consent prior to sacrificing an animal of their behalf.

I’m not feeling well.

Q: I’m not feeling well. I need to talk to somebody religious, immediately. Where can I look for help? Thanks a lot!

Time: Monday November 23, 2009 at 12:56 pm

A: You can call our Islamic Society, leave a message and pray that someone calls you back. Usually we would do so.

Better yet, send your phone number to our site and a preferred time to call.

Better then a phone call to and from us, write your issues and send them in, we would help you via our site. Other would also benefit from your concerns. May Allah (SWT) make matters easy for you and all people, Ameen.

thanksgiving vs thanks-living

Q. can a muslim feed nonMuslims turkeys that were not slaughtered the halal way? What kind of turkeys can we feed nonMuslims? (test message, shortened due to time constraints)

A:  Muslims are to represent Islam to all in  a correct manner. We cannot preach halal and feed haram. Islam does not even want us to feed our animals haram foods.

You can feed them halal turkeys. However, it is best not to do so during their given holiday. A Muslim celebrates holidays in line with their religion. Thanksgiving is not a Muslim holiday. Muslims give thanks everyday for the bounties of Allah (SWT) bestows upon them. To limit it to a given day would be a mockery. Regardless of how noble the intention or deed.

As Muslims, we are not denouncing the value of this holiday for our friends and neighbors. We support the good this nation represents and we must assist in areas that need reformation. We are also called upon to evaluate the value current holidays have in relation to current values of our religion and nation. We can invite people over for Eid and show them how we take part in our moments of celebration and worship. The intention should be propagation of cherished Islamic values.

Duty of a Muslim to is promote good at all times. To feed someone haram is to promote haram. To be active in this process is contrary to our religion. Best to abstain from such an adverse habit.

Please dont confuse our new Muslims even if you are confused/lost/dont know better

Question:

I keep reading and hearing about females having a sponsor or guardian (male) to look after the best interests of them. Which makes sense if one comes from a muslim family…with a muslim father, uncles and brothers etc. However, if a female converts to Islam and knows no muslim men…who would her sponsor/guardian be? Would it have to be a Muslim or would her uncle of another faith suffice? I have a friend that keeps telling me it’s not right not to have a male sponsor and this issue confuses me quite a bit. Any information you have on this subject for me would be much appreciated! (Name: I’m found)

Answer:

Your situation is one filled with challenge. We salute for strength. We thank you for sharing your important concerns with us.

Taking into account that you have no Muslim male relative on your father’s side to care for you, or another family member to aid you in this undertaking of yours, the following general rule would apply:

Under ideal condition, you would go a Muslim judge and he would assist you. Since this does not apply to you, you would have to look for a reputable Imaam that would be willing to assist you in this regard. Knowing that Imaams would not generally get involved in such personal situations, I would additionally advise you to contact a legal Islamic body that has senior officials and a social department that can represent and cater to your Islamic and social needs.

Should the above be far fetched, then within your community, look for responsible sisters that can bond with you and aid you in finding responsible persons that can help you with decisions that pertain to your Islamic needs.
