mixed outings, gender

Q: Dear Imam:

First of all, I would like to thank you for your balanced and very convincing ways of outlining the fatwas.

My question is about mixed outings between both genders. I am raised up in a non-religious family. Therefore, I am use to going out with my male and female class mates at school in groups. Taking my male class mates as brothers and implementing very respectful friendships with them. At University, I started to be more aware of the differences between traditions and religion and started to take things slowly to become a better Muslim. Now, as I am graduating, am wondering if my friendships and outings with the opposite gender is considered to be sinful? Note that as well my working position in a Public Relations and Marketing agency influences that kind of lifestyle on me.

Q: Excuse me for being outdated. When I married XXXXXX (name withheld) we agreed to not attend mixed gatherings. We are both beautiful and we both draw a fair share of attention. We agreed that this would be best for us. So far it has worked. Lately our parents are getting offended by us and huge arguments have erupted. Our friends are offended by us. Our former opposite gender friends are angry that we do not hug them anymore or hand out as we used to. (I not hugging a former male friend, my husband does not care to hud his female friends, etc. My question, what is the sharia ruling of mixed gatherings and can we attends with the above in mind?

I have begun to turn to religion and and it has made a difference in my life after I have joined Alhamdulillah the brothers of tabligh. Some of my new brothers int he group have told me about my investments being haram.  I want to know from a scholar if it is permissible to rent out my properties to major chain stores that sell pork and alcohol? I am not shopping for answers. So what you say would be accepted. Continue Reading →

Q: As Salaamu Alaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh respected Imam,
I work at the Retail and they play music the entire shift. when i deal with customers,I am not able to concentrate on the music. however, when the bussiness is slow and nothing to do at work, Shaytan always make me listen to it. my question is, can i recite dua,Qur’an or make Istighfarah in my heart while the Music is on?

Time: Tuesday December 14, 2010 at 6:24 pm

A: ?????? ?????? ????? ???? ???????

  • Request them to lower the volume, if making such a request is beyond your control, you are welcome to recite whatever is necessary to help keep you away from the ploys that would favor you to forget your Creator.
  • Read that which is necessary in a soft tone, do not cause a disturbance to those around you.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.

the dream i had

Q: Salamalkium,

(here is the dream) I was sleeping in a Masjid on the floor, with my bedding. It was sunday 1-2-11 @ 1am. My bedding was set near a bunch of tables that were on top of each other. So there was a big hallow space under the tables. and i was sleeping across the hallow space. As i was getting ready to sleep, i was thinking about the hallow space and also jinns were on my mind. As i was thinking about these things like 5 minutes later i felt something entering me through my mouth. I even made a sound, as when someone makes a sound when they are swallowing something. And eventually it went through. I didnt know what this was, but i was really worried to start with, but eventually i fall asleep. Continue Reading →
