Q: Assalamualaiukum Shaik,

When my daugher is affected with evil eye, please let me know how I can cure her? Is there any action I need to do? I have seen people move their hands up and down with left-over food. Is it a valid thing to do in Islam?

* The idea of the evil eye has been established in hadith. It is a reality and we seek protection in Allah (SWT) from its occurrence, Ameen.

*Sometimes things occur between members of the family. We cannot view every occurance as part of an evil eye, magic, etc. Children like adults get sick, etc.

*To read versus of the Quran and blow upon the hand and move the hand over the body is allowed in religion. To make the gesture of blowing in the food after a prayer for shifa (health) is also permissible.  If one thinks that the hand of the human is creating a Cure, then this given action would be not accepted.

*Stay in the company of the pious. Keep your child in an environment that has people that do not possess jealousy, hatred, dislike for the sunnah, contempt for hadith and Quran. This would be good for you and your child. The notion of the evil eye does exist in Islam. We seek protection from it. Children as well as adults can suffer from its effects.

*Read the manzil and blow on your child. Or blow it in child’s milk, water and allow them to consume it.

*May Allah bless your child and make him/her a true servant of the Creator, Ameen.
