A: The $50 charged is viewed as haram earnings. It is riba. The money ($250) is a loan that is given to the client. For this loan the reward would be great. Deducting $50 would be riba. Riba in Islam is haram as depicted int his case. Dealing in such transactions would deprive a person from the barakah and Mercy of the Creator. Refrain from it.
Show mercy to the creation, and Allah would show Mercy towards you.
It is not appropriate for scholars of religion or persons doing religious tasks to take favors from people s/he is rendering a service towards. Do not spoil the habits of scholars and persons of religion. Although you are not intending to do so, your offering free services to them pollute you, the scholars and the community. Do not do that. Do not eve make an offer to temp me ever again.
May Allah bless you and give you all the necessary success, Ameen.
Allah Certainly Knows Best.
