Q: 1 Salaamu Alaykum,
Imam I have a story for you, and after the story I have a request/suggestion.
So once upon a time i was at the Masjid for jum’a3 I stayed there after prayer for another hour doing
XXX work and waiting for my ride at the same time.
The Masjid was empty except for 2other Muslim sisters and 3recently convert women.
I wasn’t trying listen to their conversation so I would distract myself with reading quran, but one thing that I could not turn myself away from is when the Muslim women who was “teaching” the coverts said
“A muslim women does not have to wear the hijab at all. It is cultural. There is no where in the Quran where Allah commands us to wear it. It is a choice you make on your own”. (Quote from a Muslim woman!)
The covert said “I don’t have to wear it?”
The Muslim women said “No, oh! but at the Masjid you must wear it“.
So now my request is on Jum’a can you please give a khutba on the importance of modesty for Men and Women, but at the same time emphasize hijab.
Barakhallahu feek, inshallah I hope all is well with you!
Q2: My friend in school makes fun of my Muslim hijab. My friend tells everyone it is cultural thing and not islamic. So my teacher asked me to remove the head scarf of what she said. i am not a debater and now feel shy in fornt of this teacher. I am new to america and do not know what to do. So how to do i deal with this. My friend tells everyone it is a choice and culture. i get enough(xxxx) from non muslims people. so can you help me. ConfusiononHijab.
Answer: ?????? ?????? ????? ???? ???????
May Allah bless you both. May Allah (SWT) keep you all in the best of spiritual and physical health.
Taqwa demands that we are consistent in all matter — be it a private or public life. Mixed messages and false information does injustice to oneself and society. If one does not wish to do a good thing in a nonIslamic country, then such an action should remain as part of the individuals’ personal matter. To impose falsities upon another is a sin that hurts ones spirituality – more so if the ‘convert’ follows such advice. (Derived from Hadith.) To lie about the Quran can lead to kufr. Lying about message of Allah’s attains His Curse (ayah.) We should be more cognizant as to what we say about matters relating to Deen (religion.)
Your friend should not lie to your teachers about your correct religious choices. Hijab is not limited to it being a merely cultural issue. We stand proud of your choice regarding it. Your friend must understand that many things remain part of ‘choice.’ Personal choices alone do not dictate religious doctrine. Should choice alone function as part of religion, our religion would be that of philosophers! Whoever follows their personal whim (desires, choices) and fancies, it would be rejected (Quran and hadith.)
(Our links below prove this very well. Ask your friend to do a defense against it! ) Absurdity never seizes to amaze me. You both are not the first to claim the above objections by fellow Muslims against Quran and Hadith. NonMuslim woman too have laughed at our ignorance of not gaining a full grasp pertaining to this matter as outlined in the Quran and Hadith.
We have covered this matter subtly during Jummah. Humans generally pay attention to that which benefits their ego. Muslims that are not fully aware or feel insecure about aspects of religion generally make claims that are not religiously fact based. This is part of human nature, May Allah (SWT) always guide us all, Ameen.
May Allah bless you both for caring about this important sunnah. Such caring represents the quality of your Imaam. May we all attain the good you have in yourselves for ourselves regarding Allah (SWT) and His Messenger (Sallallaahu alayhi wasallam), Ameen.
Allah Certainly Knows Best.
