Q. Salaam ul aikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu,
If one misses a fard prayer, do they have to repeat the sunnah prayer/s that goes with the fard or do they just make up the fard part? Could you give your answer in regards to all madhabs?
Answer: ?????? ?????? ????? ???? ???????
- The only general difference is in the aspect of Witr and the two rakats of Fajr. If the fajr was missed due to over sleeping, then Ahnaf are of the opinion that the 2 missed sunnah too must be performed upon awakening. Once
- All mabhabs agree as to the necessity of making up missed prayers.
- the time has extensively lapsed, one needs to only make up the fard. Should a person wish to perform the missed two rakats, they can do so.
- Shafees can voluntarily make up the Witr, while ahnaf call for it to be made up as part of ones Qadah. Thus, to error on the side of caution, witr should also be made up is missed.
- If one wishers to read the sunnah muakadah, they may do so if the salah missed are few. However, that is not part of the obligation of missed prayers, more so if there are many Qadha prayers putstanding.
- During the battle of Khandaq, Rasulullah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) missed four salah. He ((sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) only performed the fard, thus some scholars state: if a person missed few prayers, they can add on the sunnah muakadah, however, it would be more preferred for them to read the missed fard prayers instead.
- If you are in great health and feel that you are capable of completing all your missed salaah, then in such a situation you can also fulfill all the sunnah that go with each missed prayer. Your first priority should always be towards that which you owe Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) and we owe qadha more then sunnah muakadah! Main thing for true believer is that they perform their Qadah before passing away.
Allah Certainly Knows Best.
