Q: Asallam, Dear Imaam sahib I have a few questions to do with pregnancy. I am pregnantwith my first child and alhumdulilah everything is going well so far. Unfortunately I am having a hard time praying namaaz and have been either praying on a chair or sitting on the ground. Its very hard for me to do Sajda so I’ve been doing it the way my father showed me. I just feel so guilty and want to make sure that my prayer wll be accepted. Also, I wanted to know if there was some dua I could say to protect the baby and me from any type of medical hardships. Like I said this is my first pregnancy so I am very worried. One last Question,My Doctor has advised me not to fast because it could be harmful to me not so much the baby. I have been fasting during Ramadan for 17 years now and I feel like I am cheating. Is there something I could do during this time to make me not feel so guilty? Dear Imaam Sahib I thank you for all you do and look forward to a respons. WSallam July 17, 2012 8:28 pm
A: Walaikumsalam,
May Allah (SWT) bless your pregnancy and award you with a child that makes a great contribution to His deen, ameen.
- You can perform salah on the chair based on your current condition. If you cannot do sajdah or any other gesture, merely do it through the use of ‘signs.’
- Read (and listen if impossible) surah baqarah as much as possible through this pregnancy. For a beautiful baby, read surah Yousof daily if possible.
- If you cannot fast due to a good pious doctor’s recommendation, then by all means do a make after Ramadaan.
Allah Certainly Knows Best.
