Q: As Salam Alaikum Maulana Sahab,
I am very confused and need guidance and clarification in detail about how things work behind human sights.
I understand that when a person commits sin he gets punished in both worlds by Allah, another reason for suffering could be due to test of his faith by Allah or fate which was written but reason of this question and most disturbing thing is which I found in translation of Holy Quran (about Hazrat Ayub Aleh Salam), which I understood is that he was very close to Allah that is why shaitan did put him into illness and misery, his loss and illness was from shaitan (and not by Allah?), my question is – Does shaitan has that sort of power over humans? Can he read our thoughts? Can he make mess in our lives directly? I knew that he can make us commit sins but does he have powers to take away our possessions? Is shaitan after those who are close to Allah more than who are already in his circle? When we repent, does shaitan gets irritated and comes after us? Please reply in details about what he can and cannot do, when we should be more careful or are more susceptible? May Allah reward you
for the time and efforts you spend for deen and seekers like me. Jazzak Allah

I appreciate your question. Sadly, many people give shaytan more control than necessary. It is good to know about his evil planning and how he intends to control us. However, we should also realize that Allah (SWT) has blessed us with imaan and thus we can be stronger than the ploys of shaytan.
Allah (SWT) has allowed shaytan to have control over humans that prefere doing bad things. Allah (SWT) has also given humans weapon against shaytan. The simple weapon agisnt shaytan is found in the Quran and sunnah. The battle against shaytan never leaves a living person. It would remain with you until death.
One way to overcome shytan is through salah and other pious actions. Upon a sin being committed, one must make an immediate istigfaar. The quicker one makes istigfaar, the quicker one would gain his/her closeness to Allah. The longer the wait, the more control shaytan has over a person. Not asking for an immediate forgiveness gives shaytan the ability to control humans on a greater level.
Once you are able to gain greater control over your actions, your thoughts too would become in line with that which Allah (SWT) desires. Generally, some can abstain from outer evil actions while the mind still remains polluted. Many people fill their minds harboring negative thoughts and evil thoughts of all type; this too is from the works of shaytan. Thus, stay away from physical harams as well as thoughts that limit you away from Allah. Once you accept these simple suggestions, inshAllah you would be on your way to a better spiritual outcome, Ameen.
