Q: Plse tell me Imaam sahib, I have children. 3, 6, 9, 17. Do I have to give sadaqatul fitr money for them? Jazakallah (ioq)

A: As for the 3, 6, 9 years old children, you would pay for them if they did not have the money to do so, if they had the resources, then in such an instance you could deduct it from their wealth. (I personally would pay it for my children, had I had any kids.)

The 17 year old is responsible for him/herself. In general, s/he is to pay their sadaqatul fitr.

As for the 17 yr, with his/her consent you may pay it.

(Advice: send your sadaqatul fitr to a poor person that you are aware off, rather than giving it to organizations that take a huge chuck for transaction costs, hotel fees, airline costs, restaurant tabs, clothing perks, etc.)
