Asalamualaikum,

“Whoever imitates a people is from them.”

Can you give a very detailed explanation of this Hadith?
In classical Islamic legal texts scholars divided this concept into permissible, forbidden, disliked and, at times, the obligatory.

How does this apply to Muslims today? where are some areas we imitate the non muslims where we shouldn’t and where are some areas in which it really may not affect or jeopardize our Iman like wearing pants and shirts???
