Q. Salaams Mulana
In need of Advice as soon as you can. My daughter is 22 years , had a terrible car crash now on life support. Doctors say she is brain dead. Can we switch of life support? Donate her organs? Awaiting reply. Jazakallah. Make dua for family please. Allah hafiz

A. Debate exists as to whether brain or heart stoppage constitutes death. We do believe that varying health support systems do justice for patient recovery. Should good pious doctors feel that such a support system would prove detrimental to patient well being, the family should be consulted with. Upon mutual consultation a decision should be made.

As for organ separation, we have already given a general answer, kindly refer to it.

Contact your local mufti for technical aspects of our underlying response. We do have a more detailed response which we would make public in the appropriate time. We would not like our answer to influence any type of immediate decision on matters of life and death. The above answer would suffice with mutual consultation of a doctor, the family, and your local qualified mufti.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.
