‘ladies salon’

Q: Assalaam O Alaikum:
I have a place and want to sub rent it to other ladies to have their own  salon like booth inside that premise, where they will be doing Hair, Makeup, Eyebrows, Facial, Henna, Manicure and Pedicure etc.

I will only be renting the spot to them and will not be taking a direct part in that business.  Will that be Halal for me?

Are the above mentioned trades fall under Halal income category?
May Allah bless you.

Such a subletting is permissible. The above mentioned actions alone are not haram if done within the parameters of religion. We do suggest that woman learn these ‘arts’ and utilize them in the confinement of their homes. However, women that choose to rent such spaces must limit themselves to doing that which is religiously correct. One should not sublet with the intent of having Muslims take away their religious character/dignity/modesty of self and others and thus assist in ‘evil.’ Privacy and dignity must also be encouraged as part of your contract as it relates to subletting.

A Muslim woman should go to a Muslim woman to have done that which is necessary as it relates to matters of woman and her privacy (hair.) We also urge woman to learn the aspects of makeup for permissible purposes, etc. rather than depend on others. Under ideal conditions, the cosmetologist should run her business with a state license from her home — should zoning laws permit such a transaction.

As with the case of manicure/pedicure, this must be administered to non-praying woman, for we are of the opinion that these actions do not allow for water to wash the nails and thus would render whudu incomplete.

In itself, such a subletting as descried by you would be allowed. The above precautions should be taken into consideration for female privacy and respect.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.
