Abdul Qadir al Jalani (Rahmatullah alayh)

Q: I’ve tried to find some reliable English sites with information on Abdul Qadr al Jalani (Rahmatullah alayh) but only Arabic sites exist. Is it possible to provide a brief description about him and his contribution/s to Islam?

Jazakullah Khair in advance.

A: Most of our audience members are students based or in the youth range. We recommend that they read up on the lives of the prophets peace be upon them all, then the sahabas with whom we request Allah to shower his Mercy upon, etc. When time permits, we request them to read up the many other great contributors of Islam, including the likes of Shiek Allamah Abdul Qadir Jilani. 401K

QUESTION: What is the consensus on 401K / IRA retirement accounts which are offered through employer benefits and we have the options to participate. Majority of the funds include financial institution.

CATEGORY: RETIREMENT
SUB CATEGORY: 401K / IRA

Time: Thursday December 10, 2009 at 11:01 am

A: if it is non-voluntary, then make sure your money is invested in that which is halal. The percentage of haram money/earnings must be deducted and given in charity without the intention of reward.

If you have a choice regarding 401K, then in such an instance, your money cannot be placed in avenues of haram. Allah (SWT) states in the noble Quran: Eat from that which is pure and do good deeds. Good deeds cannot be reaped with haram earnings.

In light of the current economic trend, it would be futile for Muslims to invest their halal hard earned monies in areas of doubt. For a Muslim to destroy their wealth in such  manner would be forbidden.

Pay your zakat on all money invested. Best to pay it each year.

Allah Certainly knows best.

p.s. as for IRA, send us details about it. This answer is only for the 401K.

abrogation of nikah – should have spoken earlier – you’re not refunding a broken tea cup

Asalamalaikum,

I am a sister in need of help.I have been married for a couple of years and a couple of months ago my husband has come to the States. We are struggling in our marriage. The first month he was here, I saw a picture of him and his ‘other women.’ I told my wali’s and they told me to give him another chance and to wait a month.
I am not sure of what to do. I feel as though he only wanted to come to the States. Imam what should I do? I would also like to mention that the marriage has not been consummated.

Jazkallah and hope Allah rewards you.

Dhu al-Qarnayn — man with two horns-ponytails

Q:

I am a student studying the Middle-East and Arabic at BYU. I am doing a paper on Dhu al-Qarnayn mentioned in the Qur’an. In my research I discovered that many Islamic scholars believe this figure to be a prophet or a believer and that he was the figure known in the West as “Alexander the Great”. From what I have been taught about Alexander the Great it seems interesting that some Muslims would connect him with a prophetic figure in the Qur’an. I was wondering:
1. Do you consider Dhu al-Qarnayn to be Alexander the Great?
2. How does this fit with the Western understanding of Alexander?
3. Do you consider Dhu al-Qarnayn (Alexander) to be a prophet?
If you could help in any way, it would be very much appreciated.
Many Thanks! Continue Reading →

cheater cheater (not)

Q: Assalam alaykum immam imam Muhammad Shoayb.

Is it wrong to study off an exact exam for a test your going to take?

Most times Its encouraged by professors? (name:Islam)

Time: Sunday November 29, 2009 at 12:55 am

A: ?????? ?????? ????? ???? ???????

Professors return students their exam papers. Once the exam papers are handed back to you, you can do as you please with it. You can burn it, give it to a friend, etc. Should you acquire the previous years test in such a manner, it would be permissible. Should it be from a legal test bank, or data base, that too would be allowed. Professors are aware of this.

Professors sometimes want you to study off the previous exams, so as to make you aware of the data they need for you to master. Good professors change the exam. Be as it may, so long as you did not do anything illegal to attain the test, then it is allowed for you to view it as per question above.

Allah Certainly Knows Best

p.s. Best of luck to all our students. Study hard. Pray hard. Be of service to humanity!

‘watching pornography’

Q1.What are the consequences of watching pornography and Ejaculating?

Time: Sunday November 29, 2009 at 1:06 am

Answers:

  • Viewing pornography reduces respect for men/woman/children. Makes you take human life for granted. Reduces your sensitivity towards healthy relationships. Reduces appreciation and respect of your body and the body of others. Pornography helps you lose your modesty. Pornographic viewers have to take part in filth to attain necessary gratification.
  • Pornography is a ‘movie’ production, its allurement is due to a false depiction of reality. The men and woman have cosmetics to enhance their image, at times causing naïve persons to want their wives/husbands to look and act the very same way. (Viewers don’t always say it, their behavior begins to demand it!) When viewers watch such filth and notice that they as well as their partners fail to perform ‘as seen on TV,’ it is not unusual for attraction, satisfaction,  etc. to gradually diminish.
