‘O people of Basra you destroyed your hearts with ten issues’

Contribution: Br Yassir Butt

Ibrahim bin Adham was asked by a gathering in the shopping malls of Basra

“O Aba Ishaq Allah says in his book (Ask me and I will answer surah ghafir verse 60) we have been supplicating to him ages and he does not respond?

Ibrahim bin Adham answered “O people of Basra you destroyed your hearts with ten issues:

1-      You know Allah’s due right, yet you do not fulfill it!

2-      You recite the Quran, yet you do not apply it!

3-      You claim to love the Nabi, yet you abandon his sunnah!

4-      You claim Satan is your enemy, yet you do as he pleases!

5-      You claim to love paradise, yet you do not work for it!

6-      You claim to have fear of hell fire, yet you do not try to avoid it!

7-      You claim that Death is true, yet you do not seem to prepare for it!

8-      You are more busy with others fault, yet you forget your own faults!

9-      You enjoy your Lord’s favors, yet you do not thank Him!

10-  You bury, yet you do not understand the lesson in that!

Ramadan (2010)

We have all heard the saying, “Glad tidings for the stranger.” We are certainly living in strange times. Muslims are undergoing challenges of all sorts. The beginning of Ramadaan, it’s Eid, etc. remain a point of contention for a great many. It really hurts when the ummah cannot be united on any level, not just Ramadaan, between shared borders and the like. Regardless of the date chosen to begin fasting, let us be nice about our differences. For those who are fasting earlier, let us not waste our fast (rewards) with slandering and other exercises in futility. And for those who choose to begin their fasting later, they should not view themselves as better for following the letter of the Sunnah–this is no more than your duty to your faith.

Muslims in Salt Lake City, please make note of the following announcement below. We at IslamInAction.wordpress.com give our full support to those who worked courageously to do the right thing. All thanks is to Allah the Most High and Merciful. Continue Reading →
