Q. Is a nose piercing for a tiny stud on the nose allowed?

A. There are two types of nose piercing and placing of ‘jewelry’ upon the nose:

1. One type is that type that does not violate the normal senses of a normal person. Such piercings and ‘tiny studs’ are allowed. So long as it does not cause self-mutilation, nor is its function to gain attention.  While this practice should be done in an appealing manner, it would be prohibited for one to take part in this practice or wear it so as to stand out to gain attention as a result of ones display of sensuality to strangers.

2.
The second type of piercing is purely forbidden. The forbidden type is usually found in tattoo stores. They exist to demean the beauty of a culturally and Islamically refined human. One’s normal senses and healthy Islamic mental state and upbringing should guide them to distinguish between the hideous and the accepted.

Allah certainly knows best.
