My cousin is doing a documentary, and the classmates shes working with are wondering 1) why women in islam cant date. Why is that?
2) And what does the quran say about how a man should treat his women?
3) How highly are women respected in islam?

1. it is not just Islam that states woman cannot date, it is men too that cannot date. All the major religions that believe in One God have a similar world view. Kindly view notes on traditional American values as well.
2. Quran, hadith and sunnah all state: every entity must be treated with respect — women, men, child/ren, plants, environment, etc. Just as we must disapprove of men beating up woman during the cause of a Superbowl game due to alcohol/drug abuse, or after a stressed out day, etc., we must likewise help men/woman of all categories to be non-abusive and more committed to the cause of peace. As one can notice, this matter is a human matter, not just a matter as it relates to Jews, Christians and/or Muslims alone.
3. See Muslim views of the virgin Merry, wife of pharo, the manner in which the Prophet (peace be upon him) request the emancipation of (male and female) slaves, the elimination of female being buried alive due to gender, right to a female divorce prior to western nations, etc., etc. These are documented facts by Muslims and nonmuslims alike. Kindly review them as part of your project.
