Q: Salaamu Alaikum Sheikh,

It’s (XXXXX).  When is the best time to eat sahoor?  When does the time for sahoor end and the time to fast start?  I am a bit confused with the time.

Before the time of fajr comes into purview. For example, in Utah, the entrance time of Fajr on June 21st 2010 is about 3:50. It would be best to stop eating a few minutes prior.

Just a little advice:

I recommend you get up before the time of fajr sets in, cleanse yourself with a good whudhu, as your food heats up, read some tahajud or perform any outstanding qaza salah you owe to Allah, eat your food, sit on the rug and pray for yourself and the ummah, await the time of fajr to set it, read your fajr and start your day. Under ideal conditions, you could best pray your fard with congregation.

As a general rule, I am against performing tahajud salah when you have outstanding fard salah in the form of qaza.

To avoid confusion, use one calendar and stick to it. Following multiple calendars has caused much confusion. Do not let this confuse you.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.
