Q What is the appropriate way of disposing the skin, and those things that are used for the animal, i.e. ropes, etc?

A. The animal sacrifice (qurban) is part of a sacred duty. Everything linked to it is also given superior significance than usual. Thus, it is essential that one respects everything linked to the sacrifice, so as to not diminish the reward of this great meritorious duty.

Regarding the skin, if possible, it can be utilized for personal use, whether in the form of a mat, garment, etc. If such articles are sold; it is wajib that the revenue derived be given towards charity for those who are eligible for zakat.

The above rule would also apply to the ropes that are sometimes used to restrain the animals. Such articles can be used by individuals or sold with the income derived being given towards the poor, more so to those who are eligible for zakat.

If possible, one should not merely just dump the skin in the garbage. This shows a lack of respect for one’s animals and its sacrifice.

Allah certainly knows best.
