Comment/Question:    Follow up: if I am a poor male student. my parents need money but spend it on (XXXXXX) upgrades: sound systems, new refrigerator because of getting rich guests over, new dish for more shows, movies, eating out 3 x’s a week. Must I still give them money? (Text)

A: You cannot give money to promote sin. Doing so would make you a contributor of the given wrong. Wealth is a trust from Allah. To violate this trust would possibly require a response on the day of Judgment. On matters of which your parents are seeking assistance for survival you are be bound to assist them, provided they are not squandering their personal earnings/wealth.

Survival assistance would be inclusive of but not limited to: rent money, expenses for necessary doctor visits, help with payment of a siblings needs that are the obligations of a parent,  paying off a debt for them — be it a car loan, debt to a friend, etc.

Do your best to make your parents happy within the confinements of your religion. May Allah always reward you, Ameen.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.
