Q: My friend said: i know to hit myself is wrong for imaam ul azam sayidinah habibah hasan and habininah husayn. I cannot help myself. What do scholars say about it….. (ioq)

A: All the fuqaha that are viewed as authentic view such beatings as disgraceful and against the love of Sayidinah Husain. He advised  his sister Sayidinah Zaynad RA the following:  ( In AlKamil, Allamah ibn Kathir. v.4. Page 24)

All the authentic jurists are unanimous on the point that the mourning of this type is absolutely impermissible. Even Sayyidina Husain RA prior to passing away said to his sister RA:

Oh my beloved sister,  in the event of my death, (you must) not tear your clothes, scratch your face, swear anyone for (the love of ) me or make dua (wherein you curse yourself or wish) for your own death.
