Q. I am 78 years old. I am male. I have not fasted for the past 10 years. It is because I have diabetics. Doctors found me to be unfit to fast. Am I really excused from fasting?
A. If a reliable Muslim doctor has told you that you should not fast as a result of your diabetics, then you should listen to the doctor. Once you’ve established that fasting is impossible for you, merely give Fidyah which is equivalent to the amount of Sadaqa-tul-fitr to a person deserving Zakat. Or if you chose, you can feed one poor person for two meals to the extent that the poor person is fully satiated.
Allah certainly knows best.
