Q: I would like to know if I keep snakes and lizards are okay? Mainly my mother freaks out when I bring them in the home. From a religious point of view is it okay to keep?

A: If you mother is not happy with it, then you should listen to her, after-all, it appears that you are living in her home. The Quran commands us to be dutiful to our parents, thus, even if it were allowed, it would be best for you to not keep it in her home.

As for keeping snakes and lizards, it is best to abstain from keeping them. If one was rescuing them to release them back into the environment, it would be allowed.

The type of animals we surround ourselves is bound to affect our personality. Choose animals that were kept by the prophets (peace be upon them all.)This will revive the sunnah and bring you great blessing.
