Q:Salaams,

Imam I had a question I wanted to ask you about the meats I will be serving @ my deli.  I know we spoke brief on it awhile back
but allhumdillah, I am @ the point know where I can open the deli in (December).  I cant do Halal on all items but Inshallah, I will have a few Halal
items as well.  What should I do?  Please help… Please make Dua for us.

Answer: Walaikumsalam,

I appreciate your question and appreciate to a greater amount that you wish to do the correct thing regarding that which is earned as part of your halal income. That which we earn affects our faith and the faith of those around us. To say the least, your concern is valid and critical.

The religion rules that meat that is haram cannot be even served to a nonmuslim. Let alone humans, our religion has even forbidden us to feed haram products to an animal.

  • Thus, if you must serve haram and you have no choice in the matter, you must realize that income generated from haram cannot be viewed as halal.
  • Haram wealth cannot even be spent in the path of Allah (SWT). As Allah states: You would never attain piety until you spend from that which you love (paraphrased).
  • Likewise, feeding your family from such income when other avenues exist would also be a sin as viewed by religion.
  • If you must keep haram products, you would have to deduct the haram monies and give it towards charity without the intention of reward.

May Allah (SWT) assist you and myself to make decisions that would make us proud on the day of Judgement, Ameen.

Allah Certainly Know Best.
