Q: my father is trying to perform qurbani on be half of my mother and grandmother but he is not performing for himself this year, is he permitted to perform qurbani for them.

A: Should they be alive, he must seek their permission prior to doing the Qurban for them.  If they have passed away, then naturally he would not need to seek permission.

If he can afford to do the Qurban, not doing so for himself would make him be worthy of sin.
