Q: Assalamalaikum Imam,
Does the jewelry becomes husband’s property after wife’s death? Specially if it was bought by the husband for the wife while she was alive?
Some background info, we are a family of 3 sisters and 1 brother. Our mother passed away last year. Our father bought her gold jewelry etc just like in any traditional marriage. But now after her passing away, does it automatically go back to our father and is considered his property and he can decide where and how he wants to divide our mother’s gold OR it would be considered her property (even though it was paid for by our father) and distributed by some other Islamic law? If later, can you please describe how many parts to which member of the family, again family of 3 sisters, 1 brother and a father?

If the jewelry was purchased and given to your mother as a gift, then in such an instance, the jewelry would belong to your mother. In such a situation it would go into inheritance and those that are eligible to inherit from it would do so.
The wealth of your mother would be distributed in the following manner, should the above data your shared be correct:
Husband would get 5 shares, the son would get 6 shares and the daughters would get 3 shares each.
May Allah (SWT) award your mother the best of jannah, Ameen.
Allah Certainly Knows Best.
